This Museo Archaelogico Nazionale (National Archaeological Museum) is a particularly impressive museum in Naples and contains some of some of the most comprehensive collections in Italy. Attractions at the Naples Museo Archaelogico Nazionale (National Archaeological Museum) include numerous displays of Greco-Roman artefacts and other impressive archaeological finds. Other attractions of particular importance at the museum include spectacular treasures unearthed at Pompeii and Herculaneum, and the large and interesting collection of ancient Egyptian and Etruscan relics.Many of the items on display at the Naples Museo Archaelogico Nazionale are part of the Farnese family's collection, which was originally built up over more than 300 years. On the first floor of the National Archaeological Museum, room after room is filled with ancient sculptures and historic pieces, such as Roman-era copies of Greek statues and some true masterpieces.
Upstairs in the Naples National Archaeological Museum, most of the rooms are dedicated to finds from around Pompeii and Herculaneum, with exhibits offering a real insight into the lives of these people. Of particular interest at the Museo Archaelogico Nazionale, in Naples, are some splendid mosaics, many of which are considered works of art, showing detailed comic scenes and pictures of battles. The Naples museum is also home to the largest collection of Roman mural paintings in the world, together with portraits, fine arts, frescoes, Greek vases, decorated bronzes and an interesting scale model of all excavations up to the 1840s at Pompeii.
There is always an enormous amount to be seen at the Naples Museo Archaelogico Nazionale (National Archaeological Museum), although some of the rooms are often closed for restoration and the labelling of exhibits is not always complete. However, this is a truly extraordinary museum in Naples and a visit to the National Archaeological Museum is an absolute must.
