Standing in the Vomero region of Naples, the Certosa di San Martino Church is a vast monastery, resembling a stately Italian palace. Full of grandeur, both inside and out, Naples' Certosa di San Martino Church was built in the early 1300s under the royal patronage of Charles of Anjou and over the years, the building has been updated and renovated a number of times.




The Certosa di San Martino Church offers stunning view across Naples and much of the monastery is now a museum, with attractions including many splendid paintings, frescoes, a scale model of the monastery dating back to the 18th century, and also the famous gouaches of Vesuvius by Dalbono, in various angry poses.

Other attractions at Naples' Certosa di San Martino Church include some 18th-century floors made with majolica tiles, beautiful terraced gardens, the luxurious Quarto del Priore (the prior's apartment) - the residence of the only monk who had contact with the world outside of the monastery, and the nearby Sezione Presepiale - housing the best collection of nativity crèches in the entire world.
